You’re ready to join the ranks of fully-disclosed bloggers who have joined BlogDog.com. Your final step is to post our badge on your blog (confirming your ownership of the blog). Once we verify our badge is posted, your blog will be added to our database. Then, when readers of your blog click on your posted badge, they’ll be shown your answers to our Disclosure Questionnaire – helping you comply with the FTC disclosure guidelines.

In the welcome email that you received from BlogDog.com, you were provided with customized HTML code to display your BlogDog.com badge on your blog. Simply follow the instructions below to incorporate your badge into the sidebar of your blog. (There are 2 sets of instructions on this page: for WordPress/WordPress.com blogs and for Blogger.com/BlogSpot.com blogs.)

BlogDog.com | Blogs You Can Trust

For WordPress & WordPress.com Blogs

The simplest way to add the BlogDog.com badge to a self-hosted WordPress or WordPress.com blog is by inserting the HTML code (that you received in your welcome email from BlogDog.com) into a “text widget”. Since some email programs insert special formatting code which can cause problems on your blog, you’ll want to use a text editor program to clean up your code before you follow these instructions. You can download and install a free and easy to use text editor (such as Notepad+ for a PC or TextWrangler if you’re a Mac user) or use a text editor of your choice.

  1. Go to your WordPress Dashboard and select “Appearance” from the options in the left-sidebar.
  2. From the dropdown menu, select “Widgets”. Hover over a “Text” widget (under Available Widgets). When you see the four arrows, left-click to drag a text widget and drop it into a “Sidebar” area (on the right side of the screen). (Note: the position where you drop it determines where in the sidebar your badge will be located.)
  3. Under the “Title” (which you can leave blank), there is a box where you will enter the HTML code.
  4. If you haven’t already copied the snippet of HTML code for your BlogDog.com badge (from your email) into a text editor, you can do it now. Then, select and copy the code (from the text editor) and paste it into your text widget.
  5. Click on “Save” and then “Close”. (Tip: If you who have a WordPress website and want to control which page your BlogDog.com badge appears on, check out the Widget Logic WordPress plugin.)
